We get plenty of it so why aren’t we utilising it?

The most dramatic shake-up of the UK’s energy market in a generation is scheduled to take place by 2020, but concerns are growing that the current economic downturn could push back the agenda.

Wind energy is spearheading Britain’s efforts to generate 35pc of our electricity from renewable sources by 2020 because the nation has plentiful supplies. Not only that, but there is the potential to create a lot of much needed jobs. Germany for example currently employs sixty-thousand people in the wind energy industry and the U.S. employs 85,000. Yet here in Britain the figure is a mere 4,000. (more…)

Is this energy policy really clean and green?

A major overhaul of the UK’s coal-power ambitions was revealed on Thursday, with the government pledging not to allow any new coal plants unless a proportion of their carbon dioxide emissions are buried underground. No new coal-fired power stations will be built in Britain from now on unless they capture and bury at least 25% of greenhouse gases immediately and 100% by 2025. (more…)

Government and BWEA Fluff their lines over Renewables Budget

The £5 Billion boost to the Renewable Energy sector announced by Alistair Darling in yesterdays budget is a far cry from the funding we really need especially as the Government themselves are only funding £1 Billion. However the BWEA have fallen over themselves to welcome the package of measures announced and Adam Bruce has widely praised the Government quoting that up to 60,000 new jobs could be created as a result. Engineering & Oil Services Giant Amec Forecast Growth

A recent article published in the FT by Michael Kavanagh reports that Engineering and Oil Services giants Amec are forecasting a rise in contracts which will boost forecasts considerably.
