Crown Estate offers bursaries to marine energy postgraduates

UK falls well short of its 2010 target for renewable energy

Figures from the Department for Energy and Climate Change and Ofgem show that the UK failed to reach its target of producing 10% of electricity from renewables last year. In fact, we fell well short of the 10% target and only managed to produce 6.5% from renewable sources. (more…)

On the one hand we have the Carbon Trust claiming that offshore wind will account for 10% of the global market within 39 years, and on the other we have the John Muir Trust saying wind cannot be relied upon to provide a significant level of energy. Data Centres/Cloud Computing – The future of IT infrastructure

The terms “data centres” and “cloud computing” may come as new buzz words to the uninitiated but they’re key to the technology we use each day. What’s more, future internet technology will start to rely heavily on these systems to enable even greater storage capacity and enhanced websites. Websites like Facebook, Google and Yahoo store all their infrastructure in substantial data centres. Google alone has 19 data centres in the USA with 17 more dotted around the globe. (more…)
