Could HS2 provide the spark for local investment in the West Midlands

The government’s HS2 commitment has given fresh optimism that local transport around the West Midlands area could be given an investment boost. With Birmingham one of the first stops on the High Speed network fuel has been added to the fire for the vision for the second city’s own rail investment plans. (more…)

The Railplane? Could it have worked in the modern age?

We read a popular rail magazine this week and came across a concept from the 30s, the Bennie Railplane which appeared to be a monorail but actually was an overhead rail system intended to run above a normal rail line. The original prototype was on a line just outside Glasgow but funding was never secured so the project was scrapped. (more…)
