Exciting Environmental Compliance Opportunities Available

June 22nd, 2010 by Simon Haddock

Corporate and Social Responsibility is critical to a company’s brand and often their positioning within the global economy.  The essential need to reduce pollution continues to grab the headlines as we see Global Warming and Climate Change driving the behaviours of multinational corporations to change the way that they work and position themselves to be more compliant and responsible.

Sustainable Development is a critical factor in the requirements to meet human needs whilst preserving the environment.   The most often-quoted definition of sustainable development is; “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.”   This was voiced by the Brundtland Commission (formally the World Commission on Environment & Development) who was developed in 1983 by the United Nations.

As early as the 1970’s, Sustainability & Environmental Development was on the world’s agenda and continues to drive forward changes in how we live today.

As the Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill continues to dominate the headlines across the world, it highlights the importance of corporate responsibility and compliance.

BP originally signed to the CSR Scheme which requires businesses to adhere to 10 principles regarding human rights, labour policy and environmental responsibility.  The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico appears to provide evidence that the company has not adhered to the principles and could undermine its credibility as a signatory to the compact.  In light of this, the office of the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) has asked BP to step up its ‘lagging’ commitment to the initiative in the wake of the Gulf Oil Spill.

Because of this continued focus, this has proven positive in the development of new opportunities within this business remit and Resourcing Solutions are currently working closely with a Global Client to find them exceptional candidates to work in this technical compliance environment:

HSE Consultants at all levels

The oil spill is nothing to laugh at but I just saw a kid wearing a t-shirt that cracked me up. BP – We’re bringing oil to America’s shores. I died laughing because BP’s billion dollar image change to their new sunflower logo is forever going to be associated with the worst environmental disaster to strike America.
