Enjoyable, but intense!
February 24th, 2012 by Kaleb GumbsIt’s time for Kaleb’s 4th blog about life in the Resourcing Solutions Apprenticeship Scheme.
Wow… Two weeks trial in the Resourcing Solutions Contract department …one word…Intense!!
Rapid!

There are so many requirements constantly flying in from so many different sectors. There is so much to work which keeps the whole team busy throughout the day and beyond and the pace in the department is so rapid, there are so many calls to be taken and made, requirements understood and acted upon very quickly. There is a lot of quick yet thorough resourcing and qualification needing to be done, yet remembering to look for new business opportunities, and cross selling opportunities to the rest of the team. The team have a slick working relationship and whilst it can quite get hectic everything is streamlined and you can see that the department has an easy process to be able to adapt to and be a positive part of.
Exciting!
I found the experience exciting, I laugh, but I also found myself developing a different kind of hunger for success!! The department is competitive internally and externally which really made me slip in to a different gear and bring a little more assertiveness to the tasks I was performing. I was very much made aware of the potential treat of competition by finding good candidates for some roles which I was working on and finding out through conversation that they had and only moments before been spoken to, regarding the same position I was calling them about. This is when sayings like “time waits for no man (person)” and “strike whilst the irons hot” really come home to roost. But as Apprentices, there are ways around this kind of interception which are taught to us through our training and development.
Hands-on learning
I was pared with a Business Consultant who took me under his wing, I was working a range of requirements from Senior / Lead positions to Engineer / Technical postings at more Hands-on levels. Some of the requirements were for long term placements and some for maybe just a weekend. I even got the opportunity to go on a meeting with some of our major clients. I liked the diversity of the positions which I was recruiting for and enjoyed the fact that no day was ever entirely the same. You can see where our apprenticeship training will really come in to play in this department, to help you best manage your desk within such a department with so many high profile , well known co-operate accounts with scalable requirements for recognised projects all over the UK and abroad.
Conclusion
I found there to be so much potential for personal success when working in the Resourcing Solutions Contract Team. There is some much work to get involved with. The department Manager is very much a motivator and personally an inspirer, it is clear that he is very keen on driving his whole team reach their apparitional successes. He offers so much encouragement and support to the whole team. The thing I really respect is the fact that he will still look to motive those who is doing well and insures that they look to concentrate on doing even better.
Next I am to spend two weeks in the permanent department, I will be taking some of the new skills with I have gained in this department with me.
Watch this space for the next blog!
