BP launches scholarship scheme

December 3rd, 2012 by admin
BP has launched a scholarship programme to seek out talented STEM undergraduates, grapevine.com reports.
Aimed towards those studying science, technology, engineering and maths, the BP scholarship will sponsor some 90 students at the tune of £5,000 each. The scheme will be open to those studying at nine British universities, including Durham, Bath, Nottingham, Strathclyde, Cambridge and Oxford.
The scholarship programme will be rolled out over the next four years, by which time the overall fund value will reach £4.5 million.
It is hoped that those on the scholarship will then apply for internships and graduate roles at BP, recruiter.co.uk reports. Such individuals might them go on to assume structural, electrical or process engineer jobs, to name but a few of the roles BP offers.
The firm expects to take on 220 graduates and 110 interns next year, but has already received 6,500 applications.
Commenting on the scholarship scheme, BP’s head of graduate resourcing, Emma Judge said: “BP is committed to investing in tomorrow’s talent, from all social backgrounds and preparing students for long and successful careers.
“We hope the scholarship fund will lighten students’ concerns about funding their further education in today’s economic climate, and encourage more of the brightest and best minds to continue to study STEM subjects.”
