Danish energy firm to create Grimsby jobs

February 11th, 2013 by admin
Forty jobs could be created with the construction of a new green energy operations and maintenance base in Grimsby.
Danish firm Dong Energy has chosen the Port of Grimsby for its new facility, which will be situated in close proximity of its £800 million offshore wind farm development, Westermost Rough, according to thisisgrimbsy.
Westermost Rough will comprise 35 turbines and produce enough energy to power 200,000 homes. Construction is due to start next year, but the finished farm will be run from the site in Grimsby, if Dong gets its way, although no final decision has yet been made.
Potentially, Dong could require 30 – 40 permanent employees with roles ranging, perhaps, from operations and maintenance to site manager jobs.
Chris Holden, chairman of the Grimsby Renewables Partnership, was thrilled with the news. He told offshorewind.biz: “This is absolutely fantastic news. The opportunities that are going to come along underlines what we have been saying fore the last four or five years, that this place is the place where jobs are going to come to.
“This is the place where the blue chip businesses, the leaders in the industry, have chosen to operate wind farms from.”
The news comes shortly after E.on said that it had gained approval for a base, also in Grimsby, which would probably generate another 50 roles.
