Fury at decision to reward £3bn contract to Germany

The UK rail industry has been rocked by the news that Britain’s last train manufacturer Bombardier will axe more than 50% of their workforce by the end of September after the UK government handed the lucrative order to German rivals Siemens, which in turn has raised massive doubts about the future of the Derby-based plant. Another Railtex exhibition has come to a close and we can reflect on a productive and successful event for Resourcing Solutions with a selection of our sales force and support team members attending this industry leading event. With 424 exhibitors from 17 countries participating it was a key opportunity for Resourcing Solutions to develop closer relationships with existing client and also engage with potential partners.

Has McNulty put us on the right track for rail reform?

Sir Roy McNulty’s long awaited report into the rail industry was published on Thursday. The former Civil Aviation Authority chairman pointed out that rail costs should be 20-30% lower but in order to achieve this there will need to be a ‘very substantial programme of change.’ (more…)

Travellers are abandoning the roads and taking to the rails

Soaring petrol costs have driven motorists off the roads and onto the trains, according to ATOC, the Association of Train Operating Companies. In the twelve months to March, passenger numbers increased by 6.6%. (more…)

There has been much debate recently about the proposed 140 mile high-speed rail line. Whilst there are many advocates of creating the new environmentally friendly transport, there are also many opponents. Many do not want to see the destruction of stretches of rural England that will be necessary to construct the new line. (more…)
