Two London Underground stations (Green Park and Oxford Circus) were chosen for accelerated projects to boost station air conditioning capacity in advance of the London Olympics 2012. Our client won the installation project for one of the stations.
In March 2012, our client required support from Resourcing Solutions to supply mechanical trades for installation of the pipework. We were requested to supply mechanical engineers to assist with design verification and sourcing materials, along with a mechanical supervisor to carry out survey work and supervise staff.
What we did
Prior to the project, Resourcing Solutions allocated a dedicated account manager, supported by an account delivery team, to serve the needs of our client. A series of meetings was booked with project managers and site teams to investigate the full scope of requirement. Due to project time constraints, a rapid intake of skilled workers was required on very short notice. To facilitate this, the Resourcing Solutions’ account delivery team initiated a candidate attraction and pre-screening campaign, to identify available and suitably experienced pipefitters and mates.
Using previously screened candidates on our database, candidate referrals, trade press and industry job boards, Resourcing Solutions was able to compile a stock of compliant, pre-screened workers. We briefed workers in advance to enable them to be deployed at short notice. They were also sent pre-induction packs to ensure that they reported to site with all the required documentation.
As with all London Underground sites, there were compliance requirements to adhere to, including ensuring that candidates possessed valid Lucas cards, PPE and tools. In addition, each candidate had to attend two inductions prior to starting.
In order to respond to requirements for staff to start work on the very same day, we ensured that our account manager attended site to meet staff, direct them to their induction and liaise with the client directly. This enabled us to ensure all staff were ready to start work on time and resolve any issues immediately.
Weekly meetings were held to keep the client updated on project progress, contract staff assessments and resource planning.
The Resourcing Solutions team continually advertised, screened and ensured 100% compliant candidates were available at short notice and contributed to a rapid increase in headcount.
At its peak, we had senior mechanical engineers and 40 operatives working every night shift in the summer of 2012. The project was successfully completed, commissioned and delivered on time.
