The brief

Our client, a project management consultancy in the Middle East, was successfully growing their business operations after winning major infrastructure projects in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar. This resulted in the opening of offices in each country with non-engineering functions including accounting, administration, business development, finance, HR and operations.

Their European central headquarters established the need to have a central management structure, based in the Middle East to increase market penetration, co-ordination between offices and utilisation of engineering resources.

As part of the organisational restructure, our client needed a human resources director to be based in Abu Dhabi, to manage the business regionally. The client approached Resourcing Solutions to source the role.

What we did

This role was critical to the successful delivery of the company’s plans and the timescales were tight for the future planned growth of the organisation.

The candidate needed to have experience of working for a multi-national engineering/construction organisation with multiple offices. Experience in Gulf Co-operating Countries (GCC) employment contracts and legislation was a pre-requisite for the position and the required individual needed to have change management experience.

We reviewed our existing network of contacts and passive candidate databases. Within a few hours, we had identified a prime candidate with all the relevant skills and experience. The candidate was based locally in the Middle East, having lived and worked in the UAE with previous HR experience in Abu Dhabi. At the time of the approach, the candidate had transferred outside of the UAE and was working for a construction company in the Middle East.

We conducted a telephone interview, gained additional information from the candidate and they completed an application form and provided references, ready for the client.

The result

By using our network of candidates, we were able to source the prime candidate within hours. The candidate was interviewed and offered the position within just 24 hours. Thereafter, Resourcing Solutions assisted in co-ordinating the mobilisation of the candidate, advising on documents required to obtain resident permits.

Within one of the month of the start date, the newly appointed HR director achieved a key critical performance indicator and is successfully on track to achieve the other targets required for the successful delivery of the organisational change programme.

Following the success of this placement, Resourcing Solutions continues to work with the same international infrastructure client on other key roles.
