Project Background

As part of the National Grid’s seven year ‘London Power Tunnels’ project aimed at rewiring the capital through a series of underground tunnels, Resourcing Solutions has been working with a major contractor to deliver part of the resource required for a £650m programme of high voltage transmission substations including the renewal of Wimbledon substation. The whole project will help to meet increasing electricity demands and help London access more renewable energy.

Client Brief

Prior to the work at Wimbledon Substation, Resourcing Solutions already had a strong working relationship with the client following our rail team’s successful delivery of the Staffordshire Alliance project that the contractor was a joint venture partner on.

Following on from this success and a series of business development meetings, our built environment team were engaged to source temporary, contract and permanent candidates for the client’s part in the Wimbledon Substation project.

Resourcing Solutions Service

At the start of the project, Resourcing Solutions’ specialist built environment team organised ten client meetings across a six week period to ensure all levels of our team were immersed in the requirements and to communicate regularly with Project Managers, Business Unit Directors and the Head of UK Workforce from the client’s internal team.

Our strong communication, effective and timely candidate placements teamed with our ability to outperform our competitors led our client to outsource all their Project Manager recruitment needs to our built environment team.

As the project got underway, our built environment team made regular visits to site to check in new candidates. This enabled us to strengthen our relationships with candidates and also led to a division of our client’s organisation to use Resourcing Solutions exclusively for their future recruitment needs. As a result we have been involved in projects at Tottenham Court Road, Battersea Power Station, Westgate Shopping Centre, Dumfries and Galloway Hospital and Two Fifty One which is a 41 storey residential and commercial development in Southwark.

Furthermore, the success of the Wimbledon Substation recruitment campaign opened up opportunities for other areas of our business to resource for projects at Bond Street as well as a Quantity Surveyor at Wimbledon Substation.
